The research group is named Saṁbhāṣaṇa (Sanskrit: संभाषण, meaning conversation or dialogue) — apt for a group whose work is fundamentally about enabling machines to understand, generate, and mediate human language.

When diacritics are not available, the romanized spelling Sambhashana is acceptable.

The group is officially named Saṁbhāṣaṇa Research Group and is based at BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus.
